Black Sand Diamonds

Iceland is a landscape photographer's paradise. There are so many waterfalls, mountains, black sand beaches, and interesting geologic formations that you could spend years there and still find new places to explore. I was able to spend a week there with some friends in 2018 during the height of summer, where the sun only sets for about half an hour a day. We took about a week — definitely not enough time — to drive around the Ring Road, marveling at the otherworldly landscapes around us. Among them was Jökulsárlón, a glacial bay next to the ocean. Chunks of ice fall of a nearby glacier, wash out to sea, and settle on the beach as smaller chunks of ice. These crystal-clear blue ice pieces give the "Diamond Beach" its namesake. I took this photo at about 2 in the morning. For some stupid reason, I wanted to be up to catch the "sunrise", but it was cloudy that day. I like this photo because of how interesting the chunks of ice look. I definitely want to come back to this beach in particular and Iceland as a whole someday!
