Sunrays on a Fall Maple
This maple can be found in Portland's Japanese Garden, about a five minutes' walk from where I lived at the time. I went in early on a foggy morning; if you get a membership to the Garden you can go in before they open to the general public. There were several other photographers there, of course, but they were too busy either standing in line for or taking pictures of The Tree™ — a famous Japanese maple — to notice the sun coming over the ridge, piercing the fog, and lighting up this other brightly-colored tree nearby. Luckily, I was paying attention and was able to capture it at the right moment. It turned out better than any of the pictures I've taken of The Tree™ so far.
