Sunbathing Mountain Goats in the Enchantments

The Enchantments are known for, among other things: calm mountain lakes, otherwordly alpine landscapes, and overly friendly mountain goats. I took this photo during my first trip through this range, right after ascending Aasgard Pass (>2000 feet gain over 0.5 miles!). I was taking a much-needed rest when this goat and their kid walked over to a nearby rock to bask in the sun for a while. They looked so happy! I couldn't watch them for long, though, since I still had to walk the trail's remaining 12 miles that day. Honestly, if you do this hike, try to get an overnight permit so you don't have to rush through these 18 miles. Also consider going on a day when there isn't a wildfire burning nearby so you can swim in the lakes without being covered in falling ash, as well as camp without being told by the Forest Service to evacuate. Anyway, thanks to my friends Dan, Siam, and Eric who agreed to do this crazy day hike with me!
